Big Thompson Canyon

On October 17, 2012

For Fall break I rode a stuffed BOB (enough food for a week, winter gear,  everything else I’m bringing to SA, etc) up the Big Thompson Canyon in Colorado. It was a short trip, but was mainly to test the handling of the CrossCheck with the BOB on some mountain grades (hard to do in Lincoln). The granny gear I installed was definitely a necessity. I was also surprised with the handling of a fully loaded trailer going uphill. It was very shaky/wobbly. It’s a little concerning for a 6.5 month trip. I’m beginning to wonder if the longer wheelbase of the Long Haul Trucker might have been a better choice. I chose the CrossCheck in order to use it after South America (love it). I also had to remember to put the bike in a very easy gear before stopping in order to be able to start again.

Average speed: 10.2 mph
Top speed: 35.9 mph
Distance: 54.28
