Traveling Abroad

On September 5, 2012

I made a personal goal when starting college that I’d travel abroad every year. Since 2008 this goal has been met:

2008: Spain, France

This was the summer after high school graduation. It consisted of a road trip from Madrid to Paris, covering many small towns that mostly go overlooked.

2009: France, Switzerland, Austria

While my sister was living in Paris for a year, I decided to visit her. To make it more of a vacation for the both of us, we flew to Austria and took trains back to Paris.

Switzerland

2010: Belize, Guatemala

I really wanted to drive to Mexico. After my parents wisely asked us to choose a different location (the country was very dangerous at the time), we settled on Central America. Belize was chosen since it is English speaking. If I were to do this trip over, I would’ve flown to Cancun (half price tickets) and bused to Belize. We did take buses around Belize and to Tikal in Guatemala.

2011: Iceland

On my 21st birthday my sister and I started chatting online. After both realizing we needed vacations we started looking for plane tickets. 4 hours later we had purchased tickets to Iceland over Thanksgiving break. We ended up taking 3 days to drive the entire ring road, seeing some of the most amazing landscape, cities, and the Northern Lights.

2012: Iceland

On the day of my graduation from university, I will be flying to Iceland again.

2013: South America

The first 28 weeks of 2013 will be spent biking north in South America, mostly following Route 40 starting in Ushuaia.
