Keeping On

On March 22, 2013

I’d like to start this post off with a request. I enjoy sharing pictures and events that have happened since the last post, but I’d like to throw in some more interesting posts (as if they aren’t interesting enough…). Think of it as your own personal guide to Argentina, Chile, bicycle touring, eating, or traveling. I could answer practical questions, give examples of what normal things cost, give a “day in the life of” post, talk about planning, etc. If you thing of a good post idea let me know and I’ll do my best to create something awesome!

So back to the normal info…. The first day after Chilecito was the day of the best tailwind I’ve had to date. I met two cyclists from Colorado heading to Mendoza and I did not envy them at all. They let me know that Bolivia was quite the third world country with not very nice places to visit outside of the main attractions (several biking days apart). Her language was stronger but ill leave that up to your imagination. My big bottle cage also broke. Anything aluminum is subject to this so make sure nothing vital is aluminum in your rig. I stayed in a campsite closed for winter so it was free. Perks included wifi, showers, bathrooms, and the place to myself.

The next day I made the 80 or so km to Londres before lunch. I walked around some Incan ruins there and went a few more kilometers to Belen to sleep. I think my tuna was the culprit to my messed up stomach, but I’m on the mend pretty fast. Maybe I’ll get a steel stomach to go with my legs of steel… Wishful thinking.

  • What were you most unprepared for?

What one item do you wish you’d brought with you?

  • What do you think about on a daily basis while riding? My legs hurt? I’m hungry? Oh look, a bird? I wish I had Nutella? I’m tired of being alone? Pavement!!!?

Also, how good is your Spanish now?

  • What’s one of the most frustrating things about this trip? What are some of the perks to this trip over others? Maybe you could write in 3rd person? Just kidding.

  • Ben: Do you think it’s going to be super hard to bike the whole way? What’s the neatest animal you’ve seen?
Sebastian: “I saw a rabbit and some mountains in Colorado.” (You DID mention people from Colorado in your post.)
Max: Do you sometimes stop in the day and check out cool things? What’s the best thing you’ve stopped for?
Chris: Do you prefer biking with someone or by yourself?
Gemma: Aaaaah! Aaa-aaah! aka Mom, stop typing and hold me. 🙂
