Reykjavik – Iceland day 1

On December 25, 2012

The first day in Iceland was a long one. Departing at 6 PM and arriving at 6 AM is a weird feeling with only 6 hours passing. After getting off the bus from the airport in Keflavík to Reykjavík the first stop was coffee (with pastries obviously). We then dropped our bags off in the hostel and walked around Iceland’s capital. It’s on the shore of a bay with snow covered peaks clearly visible in the distance… gorgeous. There’s also modern apartment buildings that I’d love to have as a second home.

One of my favorite buildings is the opera house in Reykjavik named Harpa. For some reason I can’t get enough of the honeycomb glass walls, dark concrete, mirrored ceiling, and modern furniture. Despite never being to an opera, I’d go to one just to see the interior of the hall.

Around the shopping district and government buildings is a picturesque lake habited by the local noisy and aggressive ducks and geese. Once they figure out your pockets aren’t loaded with bread they leave you alone for the most part. The sun in this photo is at its peak at 12:40 in the day!

  • My favorites are: “Geese and ducks avoiding the ice”, “Man on the ice” and “Second Level”. New wallpaper choices (nice, high resolution)!

  • Oooh, I like the “Nordic modern art too”!
